Clay Play Days

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at working with clay?

If so, I have the perfect opportunity for you! I am a passionate potter who wants to share my love for clay with others. I have been working with clay for over 6 years now and have decided to open up my own clay studio where I can teach others how to create beautiful pieces of pottery.

My journey with clay started while I was still teaching. I signed up for a short 3-session course to learn the basics of both hand-building and using a wheel. I quickly fell in love with the process of working with clay and knew that it was something that I wanted to continue to pursue. Over the years, I have honed my skills and have even invested in my own kiln and wheel.

Last year, I decided to treat myself to a kiln so that I would no longer have to rent the use of someone else’s. I also purchased a small hobby wheel as a starting point to increase my throwing skills. With my own equipment, I realized that I had the opportunity to share my passion with others.

Want to join me ?

I have decided to offer clay classes to anyone who is interested in learning the art of pottery.

The classes will be held on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays from April onwards, when the weather is better and we can have all the kit outside. Each session will last about 3 hours and will include everything you need to create your own piece of pottery.

The first session will focus on hand-building. We will start with the basics and work our way up to more advanced techniques. Whatever you make on the first day will need to be refined and dried out before being bisque fired. It will then need to be painted and glazed in a separate session. The whole process will probably take about 3-4 weeks.

There will be a cost associated with the classes, which will cover the cost of clay, paints, and firings. I am not charging for my time, so the cost will be £20. I will even throw in the tea and coffee for free!

If you are interested in taking part in my clay classes, please let me know what dates suit you and we’ll get something booked in. I am excited to share my passion with others and cannot wait to see what amazing creations we can make together.

Why clay ?

Working with clay is a wonderful way to express your creativity and to make something that is truly unique. Whether you are an experienced potter or have never worked with clay before, I invite you to join me in exploring the world of pottery.

One of the great things about working with clay is that it is a very tactile medium. You can feel the clay in your hands, shape it, and mold it into whatever you desire. This is a very different experience than working with other materials such as paint or charcoal. With clay, you have the ability to create three-dimensional objects that can be both functional and beautiful.

Another benefit of working with clay is that it is a very forgiving medium. Unlike other materials, such as watercolor or oil paint, clay can be reworked and changed as many times as you need. This means that you can experiment with different techniques and designs without fear of ruining your piece.

Working with clay can also be a very meditative experience. Many people find that working with their hands in this way can be very calming and centering. It is a great way to disconnect from the stresses of daily life and to focus on something creative and beautiful.

In my classes, I will be sharing my knowledge and experience with you. I will be teaching you the techniques that I have learned over the years and showing you how to create.
